TLC Playlist: Remembering Aaliyah 8 Years Later

Posted by anthoNYC on August 25, 2009

Today marks the 8 Year Anniversary of Aaliyah’s death. It seems like just yesterday we got the devastating news that singer/actress Aaliyah Haughton passed away on August 25th, 2001.

A musical innovator and cultural icon, Aaliyah passed away in a terrible accident weeks after her strongest and most critically acclaimed third album Aaliyah was released. She was mysterious, beautiful, humble and way ahead of her time.

Let’s take a moment to remember all that was and all that could have been.  Her unique legacy continues.

For those in NYC: Fans are gathering at 7:30PM EST near her resting place today to watch her videos and listen to her music, take part in a mass, read letters from fans, and will hold a Candlelight Vigil in her memory at her Weeping Willow Tree in Central Park. [MySpace]

RIP: January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001
