Scarlett Johannson and Pete Yorn to Release Duet Album

Posted by anthoNYC on May 23, 2009

I feared that Scarlett Johannson’s much overlooked 2008 album of Tom Waits covers would deter the husky-voiced actress-cum-singer from recording again. Luckily for people who enjoyed Anywhere I Lay My Head, that was not the case (sort of.) The latest musical project is another concept album, this time a collective of duets with Pete Yorn that was recorded two years before Anywhere I Lay My Head.

USA Today provides a bit more insight into the album:Yorn’s eight original compositions and Big Star founder Chris Bell’s I Am the Cosmos form a song cycle that chronicles a tempestuous affair. The album, out Sept. 8 on Atco/Rhino, was inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s 1960s recordings with Brigitte Bardot, a concept that came to Yorn in a dream. He later reached out to Johansson, who sewed up her vocals in two afternoon sessions.

The first single Relator will be availble for purchase on May 26th, but is available to stream on the Break Up Album official site. The full album will be out September 8th.
