Peaches at Webster Hall, 5.16.2009
This weekend was a 24 Hour Party People extravaganza with a cherry Peaches topped gig at Webster Hall on Saturday night! I hadn’t seen Peaches live before beside the DJ set at Tribeca Grand and was especially excited after the release of the incredible album, I Feel Cream (see my review for Pretty Much Amazing.)
Drums of Death was scheduled to open the show but were stuck at the Airport, leaving the supporting duties to Naked Cowgirl. Her slot went from slightly funny to disturbing as the elderly woman stripped along to crude song parodies before lighting her nipples on fire. Moving along…

3 figures dressed in shiny luchador outfits immediately took the stage followed by none other than Peaches in a hooded chiffon peach-shaped top for the Show Stopper opening.
Peaches and her new band Sweet Machine went on to play an incredible nearly 2-hour, 23-song set (with just about as many outfit changes!) I visualized the live set in my head while playing the album over and over for the past few weeks, and the show went above and beyond my expectations…it was on par with a Madonna show!
Through the sweaty oblivion of dancing and singing along with Sheena Beaston and muumuse, my laundry list of highlights included: Lose You in which her face was projected onto her white bat-cape leotard to sing the chorus. The engine-revving More where she wielded around a light stick, the crowd surfing and balcony liabilities of Operate, and the smooth and sexy gold-caped trifecta renditions of I Feel Cream, Lovertits, and Tombstone, Baby with blood still running down her face from spitting blood during Fuck The Pain Away. I could go on for days detailing the show but I demand that you just catch her on tour.
After reeling from the gig, Tastes Like Caramel and Sheena Beaston headed down to Santo’s for the afterparty where we met, chatted and got our picture taken with Peaches! Such a great day + night that required a substantial amount of recovery time (hence the delay in posting this.) See you June 19th at the Music Hall of Williamsburg for her next NYC-area gig, cannot wait!
