You may have seen Patrick Wolf at all over NYC’s hot spots in recent months, but next week you can see him onstage performing new material from The Bachelor! An Evening with Patrick Wolf will be a one-off stripped down solo acoustic set that will take place at Le Poisson Rouge – one of Manhattan’s very best.
Patrick had this to say about the special gig: “I am excited to be going back to America, to play songs from my new album. And to show New York how it all started by going there on my own with only a case full of instruments for company.”
Although he plans to return after the release of The Bachelor on June 2nd, An Evening with Patrick Wolf will be the ultimate intimate experience for old and new fans alike, don’t miss out!
Take that gentrification! The closing of Astroland and the soon to be corporate run Coney Island can’t stop the music. We went to the Village Voice’s 8th annual Siren Music Festival last year thinking it would sadly be the last time we’d be able to chow down on Nathan’s famous hot-dogs, ride the Cyclone, catch some great bands and oggle/sneer at hipsters all in one day. We were happily mistaken, as the 2009 festival was confirmed yesterday along with an initial line-up.
This year’s Siren will take place on July 18th from noon-9pm and is set to feature some of indie rock’s bigger names like Built to Spill and The Raveonettes. It will also set the summer spotlight on a couple of the UK’s most promising (relatively) new bands, Micachu and the Shapes (above left) and Frightened Rabbit (above right).
Micachu and the Shapes are a London 3-piece who produce preciously precocious “diy pop.” Their debut album, Jewellry, is out now on Rough Trade.
Frightened Rabbit are a Scottish indie rock quartet who have actually been around a long time, but due to a dedication to touring, are getting some well deserved recognition. Their sophomore effort, The Midnight Organ Fight, came out last year on FatCat Records.
I can’t stop talking about how much I love the new Peaches‘ new record out May 5th, I Feel Cream! If you didn’t make it to last week’s album preview at Le Poisson Rouge, then take full advantage of the online stream HERE courtesy of XLR8R! Enjoy the ridiculously delicious video for More below…see you on the dancefloor!

Legendary trip-hop duo and sons of Bristol, Massive Attack, will return this fall with a long-awaited live UK tour. They will also very most likely release new material for the first time in over 3 years.
Speculation abounds regarding album title, musical direction and possible collaborators (Guy Garvey of Elbow?). Only time will tell. If you’re in London there’s no excuse to miss the tour which is calling at Brixton Academy 3 September nights in a row.
Two of Tastes Like Caramel’s faves are teaming up to help the fight against homelessness for a one-off gig in a very intimate, unusual and secret location next week in London.
Hot Chip and Erol Alkan are DJing and hosting the first of The Crisis Hidden Gigs next Tuesday May 5th with live performance by Man Like Me!
Interestingly enough, the venue for the gig is held completely secret until 24 hours before showtime! Ticket holders will receive a text or email with all the details! If you’re lucky enough to be in London next week, get your tickets now HERE…great entertainment for a great cause!
Crisis invites you to Find the Music Expose the Truth, to learn more about the organization click HERE. Future hidden gigs include Zane Lowe, Starsailor, Pendulum, and many more!
I grew up to older sister swooning over soul crooner Maxwell since 1996, which of course rubbed off on me. With a career spanning 13 years, Maxwell has shockingly only released 3 studio albums, the last being 2001’s Now. After a 7-year hiatus, Maxwell reappeared last fall for a brief tour and is back in 2009 to finish what he started.
Via his MySpace page, Maxwell announced his upcoming project called Black Summers’ Night a trilogy released over the span of 3-years 2009-2011. The first of this set is Black, slated to be released on July 7, 2009. Can’t wait to finally hear the new tunes and possibly surprise my sister with tickets! Enjoy Pretty Wings below and the GORGEOUS cover of Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work.
I must’ve missed this one over the weekend. Little Boots has finally released her first official music video ever! Enjoy the video below and make sure you catch her on tour this spring/summer. You can also preview 30 second clips of Hands via iTunes HERE (make sure you change the iTunes store to UK.)
